I am a newbie to Exchange 2003. I have just done a new install (previously
always used 5.5) and have got a few queries that I hope someone can help with.

The first thing is multiple mailboxes for users. We have several users that
currently have got two mailboxes on exchang 5.5 ie user@company1.com and
user@company2.com.

With 2003 being integrated into active directory I don’t want to have to
setup two separate user accounts for the user. Currently when they open
outlook they just choose either company 1 or company 2 profile and the
selected mailbox opens up.

How can I do this in Exchange 2003.

The other thing that we currently have on the Global Address List is contact
address’s for people who are based on our server (Internet Mail Addresses).
How can I add these on 2003?

We also had some mailboxes setup which forwarded to Internet Mail Addresses
is this still possible on 2003?

And my final question is that my default when you install Exchange 2003 it
makes that server the OWA server. How can I make another server the OWA
server.

Many thanks in advance

Paul

1. Create two mailboxes and use the Exchange Advanced tab Mailbox rights to
give them access. You may need to set the Send As permission on the Security
Tab as well. If you do not want two mailboxes that you should look at using
a Public folder as the second mailbox. Mail enable it set permission to
allow internal and external mail (default and anonymous contributor), set
send as or send on behalf of access. But it sounds as if two users is the
way to go as it follows the same pattern as they had before. The profile
method will still work. They do not need to log into the other user account
as you have given permissions to their "primary" account to access the
mailbox of the "secondary" account.

2. In Exchange System Manager, under recipients, All Address Lists you can
create a custom address list. You all ready have the All Contacts address
list, but so long as you can find the contacts based on an AD attribute you
will be able to create an address list. You may consider setting one of the
custom attributes to make the query simpler, but it involves maintenance
when you create new contacts to enter the custom attribute value. There is
an option under Exchange recipients in the query to choose the server the
contacts, users etc reside on and have it list only those objects.

3. Forwarding to external email addresses. Create contacts for the external
address (and probably hide from address book), then on the user AD object,
Exchange General, Delivery Options, Forward to enter the contact.

4. OWA look at Front End / Back End configurations. There is good inf on
Microsoft site about this and also on www.msexchange.org has a good tutorial
on this.

Hi Glen,

Thanks for you help, I have a couple queries about your advice if you
wouldn't mind.

When you say to create two mailboxes I assume you mean two user accounts and
each have a mailbox?

With the second point i have created a custom address list, but how do I add
email addresses to it? (Sorry I am being dumb here)

On the third point, when you say create contacts I assume you mean create as
we did in point 2?

One thing I did forget to ask was we have lots of addresses like info@,
press@, jobs@ etc, what is the best way to set these up?

Thanks again

Paul

1. Two mailboxes = Two users. Correct

2. Custom address list - open the properties of the list and click the
modify button. This is similar to the find tool in AD or you can add a
custom LDAP search if you wish. When you created the address list the filter
rules would have got you to the same place.

3. Contacts are created in AD, Right click, new, contact.

4. General email addresses like those can be created three ways;
a. Distribution list (mail enabled group) - mail appears in each
member users inbox.
b. Public Folder (mail enabled) - mail is held in public folder
and access is controlled by permissions on folder. Set default and anonymous
to contributor.
c. User Mailbox - create general user and give permissions to the
mailbox for people to access.
The best way is probably A or B, but it depends on your environment and you
may find C works best for you. Test with at least two users and one general
account.
