Hi Rumson,
Mailbox limits will vary between organizations, however it's typical to
first determine how much downtime is acceptable in the case of a disaster
recovery or maintenance scenario. Once you know this time, next would be to
determine how large of a database you can have to meet this acceptable
downtime (suggest testing a restore on a test server with similar hardware).
Then it would depend on the number of mailboxes you have on the store which
you could then divide into.
