Exchange 5.5 and PDC

Before my time, Exchange 5.5 was installed on a PDC. Now I'm getting ready to
upgrade Exchange to a bigger machine but I'm not sure how to handle the PDC
issue. I currenlty have 1 BDC which can be promoted to PDC. If I promote the
BDC now (without any hardware upgrades), what problems will I have?

Install 5.5 to the new member server machine, add it to the existing
org, move the all the mailboxes and pfs etc over to it and then remove
exchange 5.5 from the first server.
