Front end server? |
|
|
Does the font end server need to be on a machine with AD and DNS or can i
just load EX2K3 on a W2K3 server and set it up as a front end?
The way i understand the directions the front end should not host users that
tells me it should NOT be an AD machine.. Just need someone to backup my
logic :)

Your frontend should be on a standalone 2003 member server. I do not
recommend loading it on a DC and you shouldn't unless you're in the small
org scenario where you're strapped for hardware.

Thanx Brian, thats exactly what i needed to know....
Here’s my only concern… The server im going to promote to a front end server
is already an AD machine. Now on an old W2K3 test server I removed AD but
left a shortcut on the desktop to AD users and computers… After removing AD I
double clicked on my shortcut just to see if it would work and low and behold
IT DID.
In case you’re wondering the AD users and computer icon was absent from the
start, programs, administrative area… Weird huh?
So obviously when you remove AD from a server it doesn’t remove ALL of it.
May have to rebuild this server from the ground up.

You're fine. AD Users and Computers and all the other tools are installed on
every server load. You just don't see the icons until you dcpromo.
Go start>run>dsa.msc on any server. :)
