single URL for OWA with multiple exchange servers and no Fro |
|

Is there a way to have a single common internet URL for my OWA users using
multiple Exchange 2K3 servers and no Front-end server?
Seem like there has got to be some trick to making it work.
thanks

The trick is to use a FE server. If you don't, you'll be able to connect
but soon after you'll be redirected to the be server by name which doesn't
then maintain your solution.
FE servers are pretty easy to deploy and relatively inexpensive in terms of
hardware/software that can be used.

I mean... it seem like there has to be some trick to get it to work withOUT
a FE server. I am sure someone has figured out how to this.
What about an ASP script that looked up an AD value from a login and
redirected the client to the appropriate server?
E.g....A user went to mail.domain.com ->logged in -> then was redirected to
mail1, mail2 or mail3.
Of course you would have to have multiple internet addressable IP's like
mail1.domain.com
mail2.domain.com
mail3.domain.com
Anyone?

You mean, you'd rewrite the FE pages just to get out of deploying a FE
server?
Like I said, you may be able to publish more than one internal server with
ISA 2004, but I haven't looked at its abilities that closely yet. However,
I wouldn't hold my breath for that or anyone else re-writing the FE
functionality. That would be cost prohibitive for many and would only have
the coolness value in return.
The layer-7 firewalls or a third party app would be the only other way, but
I doubt it.
What's your avoidance to run a FE server vs. coding something like this?
Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to just put up the FE server and let
Microsoft do the hard part for you?
