OWA Install |
|
|
I have just migrated to Exchange 2003. I would like to setup OWA. I am
trying to get OWA setup on a diffent server than the Exchange install. Can
this be done? I would like to have the Exchange box behind the Pix firewall
and the web server that is running OWA in the DMZ. How can this be done?

OWA is no longer separable from the main Exchange installation. Not many
people like to use an OWA box in a DMZ these days. There are too many open
ports required between FE and BE servers. It's much easier to just open 80
or 443 to the Back End for HTTP or SSL access to OWA. If you really want
OWA in the DMZ then you will need to install another Exchange server and
make sure it is well patched and locked down.

That sucks that I can not separate them. Well looks like I will just install
a second adapter for OWA use and have my Pix only allow port 80 to go to it.
Thanks for info.

You can seperate them. It's just that you need to install a full blown
Exchange server on the front end machine. Then you configure it as a FE
mchine and dismount all the stores etc.
As Lee said the current best practice is to put the OWA box inside the LAN
an only open SSL to it. With Exchange 2003 your FE can be running Exchange
2003 Standard edition rather than Enterprise as was required by 2000.

Yep. Sorry if my answer was misleading. When I said that you can't
separate them, what I meant to say was that you can no longer install OWA on
its own like you could in Ex 5.5 .
