RPC over HTTPS is usually good for accessing mailservers from outside the |
network (especially for road warriors). It can certianly be implemented
internally however. What is the driver for all 1000 to use RPC over HTTPS?
If you are going to use RPC over HTTPS, I would high recommend using ISA 2004
in the DMZ and leave your frontends on the internal network. Its a much more
secure design.

2 is a good number. You can configure it in a way so that they are fault |
tolerant using NLB and so that they share a namespace (mail.company.com).

Microsoft recommends Active/Passive. There are many limits applied with |
A/A. You would be better off with A/P.

Can you explain this a bit more. Why do you want to split them up? |

Reason for asking Q:
I have a client that wants to install a centralized exchange solution. They
currently run NT4 (7 Domains) and Exchange 5.5 (7 Sites).
They gave me a doc with the following:
Approx users: 1000
Secure Root AD domain (2 Servers)
User (child) domain (2 Servers)
2 node Exchange 2003 Cluster (Active/ ?)
2 x Front-End Servers
1 x OWA server that will handle SMTP/Antivirus/Spam (in DMZ)
It look like they want to run RPC over HTTPS for their 1000 users on the
WAN.
They did not mension ISA/Firewall.
I would like to know a few things:
1. RCP over HTTP(S) is it worth it to run this on a WAN ?
2. Front-End Servers how many ?
3. Cluster should it be Active/Active or Active/Passive ?
4. Can I put the FE server(s) in the Root and Cluster in the child ??
Thanx
Wessel
