Exchange 2003 SMTP thru firewall |
|
|
I have configured Echange 2003. I can tell net to the smtp serveice form
inside my network (ie telnet 192.168.60.5 smtp) but i cannot telnet from an
internet address (ie 216.190.223.156). The firewall (pix) is set up correct,
as I can access the web and if I start the service on port 2525 i can tellnet
from the outside just fine to it. Any ideas on this?

By default Exchange is listening on Port 25 and external mail serves sending
email via SMTP assume your network can receive connections via Port 25. Is
Port 25 open on the Pix Firewall? Also, there are some issues with Exchange
Servers behind Pix firewalls.
320027 Cannot send or receive e-mail messages behind a Cisco PIX firewall

Goto to the enable prompt of the pix and remove the fixup for port 25
(SMTP) as the PIX does not support the exchange protocols.
Also turn the logging on the pix to debug and dump the putput to a
syslog server so you can see the traffic go through the firewall.
