Anyone Using IronMail Out There? |
|
|
We are getting ready to implement Exchange 2003 and I am considering
switching our current SPAM filtering software (NetIQ's MailMarshal) for the
IronMail appliance. I am wondering if anyone is currently using the
IronMail appliance or has any other product that is good at reducing the
SPAM.
Thanks,
Fred

The company I work for (not inventrix) uses IronMail. We have 60,000 users
and we filter out about 5 million messages as SPAM. A critical piece is to
ensure you implement the LDAP piece that will allow IronMail to drop
recipients that are not in AD.

Good Point. I see that flaw with our current product.
Thanks,

GFI has the same feature. We have been using the feature for a few weeks,
and it has cut down on a lot of the spam we have to deal with. -Drew

Can't that be done with Exchange2k3 without 3rd party stuff? Wouldn't this
be the same as Recipient Filtering (under Global Settings) and selecting to
filter for recipients who are not in the directory?

yes you are correct in regards to filtering out recipients that are not in
the directory option.

Just as a note Exchange 2003 has this functionality already you dont need a
third party product.
The following article describes how to prevent exchange 2003 server from
accepting undeliverable email and therefore would reduce the amount of items
in your badmail folder.

Yes. We use four of their appliances.

We saw a drop of about 50% in the number of messages after install
verson 4.5.1 and enabling that feature, and a big drop in the number
of quarantined mesages. The only thing that's bothersome is the single
IP address and the lack of either "fail open" or sending 450 instead
of 550 if the single LDAP server croaks.

That's funny! Exchange has very weak abilites when it comes to dealing
with spam, unwanted connections, or customization (in this case weak =
none).
The use of the AD/LDAP to refuse mail for unknown addresses is nice,
but how long did it take for MS to put that into the product?

Yea, I use Symantec Mail Security 4.5 on all of our Exchange Servers.
