Hi all,
I have set up SBS2003 with Exchange in our office mainly to share calendars
and files between 15 users and a number of offices over a LAN to LAN VPN
using Draytek Routers and the server is on one of the LAN's. (I realise that
it should be connected to the net via it's own connection and not from
within a LAN but at the moment to get to the telephone line (ADSL) it needs
to be via the LAN). Anyway, I set the SBS 2003 up but do not understand how
to connect it up so that it can be used as a email server on it's own.

At the moment we all have emails accounts that are separate to the server
(POP 3 and included with the hosting of the website on a third party hosting
service) This is fine but the 15 users of the server all have 2nd email
address's that don't get used as they are name@theserver.local This gets
very confusing and sometimes emails get sent there instead of straight out
via the other POP3 accounts(name@domain.com). The email then goes missing as
the server doesn't send the email on to the correct address.

The server has an internal static IP within the LAN of 192.168.1.9 and that
office has a static IP for internet connection (provided by BT) I am totally
stuck as to how I can get the server to send and receive emails as a server
should. I also can't get it to send me any alerts.

Please how can I get connected to the internet and send and receive emails
via the server.

Below is a number of Alert logs that I have copied from the server. I am
sure they are all connected and if I could get connected all these would be
solved.

Event Properties
Verify that the Microsoft Exchange MTA service has started. Consecutive
ma-open calls are failing with error 3051.

Critical Alerts
DHCPServer service is Stopped.

This service performs TCP/IP configuration for DHCP clients, including
dynamic assignments of IP addresses, specification of the WINS and DNS
servers, and connection-specific DNS names. If this service is stopped, the
DHCP server will not perform TCP/IP configuration for clients.

For more information about this event, see the event logs on the server
computer. You can restart this service by using the View Services task in
the Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad.

You can disable this alert by using the Change Alert Notifications task.

critical errors in application log
MSExchangeAL
The service threw an unexpected exception which was caught at
f:\titanium\dsa\src\lra\abv_dg\lservagent.cpp(4511) For more information,
click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Please remember that you are talking to a
total beginner when it comes to SBS2003 though!

Cheers
Lenny
