Exchange 2003 Full Text Index for Adobe PDF's |
|
|
Exchange 2003 enterprise on WS2003. Built indexes for private and public
stores. Works famously fast! Now I am trying to enable searching PDF as
per Jim McBee's book (Ms Exchange Server 24 seven, pg 167).
1. REGSRVR32 mssmmcsi.dll
2. DL and installed Adobe's Ifilter 6.0
3. Run MMC and add 'Search'
4. Navigate to Catalog Build Server
5. Right click | properties
I then get an error popup with a red x titled "MS Search Admin Snap-in" with
the message "Unable to connect to host ZZZ. The application called an
interface that was marshalled for a different thread". If I try to navigate
further, I get the "must be viewed with SSL" webpage (I do have forms based
OWA enabled on SSL only).
Things that didn't work:
I have turned off IIS | Default website | Require SSL and recycled IIS
I have added the local machine to 'trusted sites'
I have logged on as local admin and domain admin
Rebooted the Exch server
Various googles indicate it could be (not tried these):
A problem with Ixsso.dll registration - to reregister it.
A problem with COM+ and IE - this server is fully patched.
I have just a few mbox's and PFs replicated from the Exch 5.5 server in the
same site.
Anyone have a take on this?
Thanks, Devin

I think it's good idea reregister ixsso.dll:
Index: Application Called an Interface That was Marshalled for a Different
Thread
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290424
Also check for MDAC update:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/Default.aspx

Anderson,
That KB says to look for entries "Ixsso.query.2" or "Ixsso.util.2". There
are none. I went ahead and unregistered ixsso.dll and reregistered it- no
improvement even after reboot.
I checked the MDAC version with the latest Componet Checker from MS - we are
at MDAC 2.8RTM. Both Windows update and MBSA version 1.2.1 (1.2.4013.0)
show I am fully patched and I see no updates to MDAC 2.8RTM from MS.
Its not worth a call to PSS so we just wont index PDF's :-(
Thanx anyway, DL

DL--
Try using mssmmcsi.dll from Exchange 2000 SP1
(http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/downloads/2000/sp1.asp).
