Hi

I am a novice in regards to Exchange but have now inherited a Exchange 2k
server.
I am in the process of migrating from Win2k servers/AD to win2k3 Domain. As
I have a more knowledge of Exchange 2k3, i want to migrate everything
including the mail server to 2003.

In doing so I have come across a problem with the Win2k exchange server. I
can not assign rights. Domain admins and administrators are denied and this
in inherited. The problem is that I can not find the account which has set
the rights, when I go to the security tab I get the message " unable to
display security information" this is on the M drive where all the mailboxes
are.

I can access ESM as administrator but still can not assign rights, is there
a way I can create a group or user to take control back. Is this a default
setup??

thanks

Steve

You need to find out which accounts have been delegated control. From ESM,
right-click on the Org and choose Delegate control. Once you click next,
you will see the accounts that have Exchange Full Administrator access.
There must be at least one. Exchange Full Administrator is the only account
by default that will be able to modify permissions.

Also, please don't be messing with permissions on the M drive (or
subfolders). That's one of the reasons it was removed in Exchange 2003. It
can cause big problems if you modify permissions directly on the M drive.
