I currently have a single Exchange 2003 Server Standard installed in single
2K3 AD Domain. I have a need to move some accounts to a separate information
store, so I want to install an addtional Exchange 2003 Server in my site. I
have a few questions that I have been unable to find any concrete answers on.

1 - can first (master) Exchange server be Standard version and then 2nd
server be Enterprise version?

2 - Are there any special settings needed when just installing second
Exchange server?

Yes, you can have a mix of what you want. If you make a Front End
server be sure to use Standard Edition in 2003 (it had to be
Enterprise in 2000) because it's cheaper.

If you just want to install a new one then you can bung it on. You
might want to route all mail out of the existing server if it's got a
disclaimer programme or something on it. If you do then create an RG
and SMTP connector and specify the first box as the local bridgehead.
The wizard for creating the SMTP connector is pretty intuitive.

Also, if your one and only Exchange server had a Smarthost to route
mail to your ISP then you must remove it from the SMTP VSI and put it
onto the connector.
