no exchange tasks |
|

I set up exc2003 server in a 2003 domain. I'm not trying to connect to
ex5.5, and I'm not running active directory on exc2003 machine. I'm not
seeing the exchange task option on the users in active directory. I ran the
forest and domain preps, before install.

You'll only see Exchange Tasks on computers where you installed Exchange or,
at least, Exchange System Manager.

RE: no exchange tasks |

Firstly, I'd like to confirm with you that whether you can use "Exchange
tasks" on the Exchange server?
In order to use Exchange task in Active Directory Users and Computers
(ADUC) snap-in on another machine, it must on prior have Exchange
Management Tools installed as "Exchange Tasks" is not the default option
available in ADUC. To do so:
1. Run the Exchange 2003 Setup on the computer where you want to use the
Exchange System Management Tools.
2. When the Component Selection window appears in the wizard, change the
installation option to Custom.
3. Select Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools, and then select
Install. Leave all other components at the default setting of None.
4. Click OK to complete the installation.
For more information, please refer to:
834122 Exchange-related tasks are missing from the Active Directory Users
and
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=834122
You'd better installed it on a Windows server platform as it will cause
some problem if we use it in Windows XP which can also run Windows Server
2003 Administration Tools
You cannot use the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools to add a group
to the Restricted Groups policy in Windows XP

Hope the information helps.

The only place I noticed the exchange tasks on the exchange server are on the
two mailboxes created with the install, system attendant and system mailbox.
Is that the only place I should see it. Can I add users on the exchange
server?

RE: no exchange tasks |
|
|
From Exchange 2000, since Exchange server has been integrated with Windows
AD, we cannot create a Windows user account in Exchange Server Manager
(ESM), what once can be done in Exchange 5.5 management. If we want to
create a Windows user, the common utility we perform this option in is
ADUC.
ADUC utility will be enabled by default on DC and Exchange server, which
maybe are not the same server. As you know, ADUC is used to manage AD,
while ESM is used to manage Exchange server. The function in ADUC can be
extended by Exchange management tools.
Therefore, If Exchange in not installed on DC, we cannot use Exchange tasks
in DC's ADUC because it has not been extended Exchange management tool. In
a word, we can use Exchange tasks in these two places: ESM and extended
ADUC.
Hope the information helps. And I believe that you have already managed to
them :-). If you have any further concerns, please feel free to post here.
It is always our pleasure to be of assistance.
Have a good day!
