POP3 Service refuses to start |
|
|
Hello
Have just set up Microsoft Exchange 2003 and can successfully send emails
from outlook web access but am unable to recieve them:
Delivery fails and I get a message saying:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
robinwilson16@16pentlandclose.com
SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT
TO:<robinwilson16@16pentlandclose.com>:
host mail.16pentlandclose.com [69.93.44.252]:
554 <robinwilson16@16pentlandclose.com>: Relay access denied
When I go to Exchange System Manager it says the IMAP4, NNTP and POP3
service are stopped but when I try to start them I am unable to.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be please
Thanks
Robin

I can't start pop for some reason as well. When I try to enable the
serivice in ESM it hangs for a bit and then fails. No events are
generated. I can't find any articles on this either..
Just co-miserating I guess :)

Bingo..
I bet this is in the deployment guide, but I missed it. By Defualt, the
POP3 and IMAP services are disabled in the services.msc console. Set
them to automatic. You can then start the services in ESM.

The respecitive service names in the services.msc are :
Microsoft Exchange Pop3
Microsoft Exchange Imap4
Network News Transport Portocol (NNTP).
You might have to adjust your window sizes to find them.
