public store does not have correct distinguished name |
|
|
We have a single Small Buisness server 2003 with Exchange. It has been
running fine but, we needed to change from raid 1 to raid 5.
I stopped all exchange services and manually copied all of the databases
from the server to an external drive. I used exmerge to export all of the
mailboxes but, only have a copy of pub1.edb
We switched from Raid 1 to Raid 5, rebuilt the server from scratch and
re-imported all of the mail boxes using exmerge.
However, copying the pub1.edb file back did not work. I get an error when
trying to mount the store that the Distinquished name is different.
I have been looking but, can not find a way to re-import that pub1. We only
have one server so, the migration tool does not sound like it will work. I
dont want to use the legacy tool for fear of corrupting all of the mail
databases.
Any ideas? How can I successfully import the old pub1.edb with a different
distinguished name?

You will have to change it ADSI Edit
Install the Windows support tools and then follow this article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822676
The article tells you which objects in AD to change, be careful with it
though, and only change the ones you need for the effected database files.

Brian,
Thanks for the tip. The ADSI tool gives me an error when I try to edit the
distinquished name. It says I can not edit the attribute as it is owned by
the system.
I could not figure out how to set the security so that I could edit the
attribute.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
