I have a weird problem with an attachment.

I have a SQL Server 2000 with Reporting Services. Every morning it
generates a report and e-mail it to 6 people as an Excel attachment.
5 of those people also us Blackberry. I do not.

They can open the report on the BB, or through Outlook. If they use Outlook
Web Access, the message shows the paper clip, but when you open it, there
is no attachment. If I forward from OWA back to myself, I can open the
attachment in Outlook, but not OWA. If I forward my copy of that e-mail to
one of those users, they have the same problem. They can open attachments
in OWA from any other source, this only seem to affect RS generated
messages.

How big is the message? OWA only allows, IIRC, a 2MB attachment unless
you've change that.

Tha attachments are less than 100K. I can open them. It's the users
that also reveive them on a Blackberry that have the problem. Of
course, those happen to be the Senior Directors :)

Are you using BES or just the desktop synch? If it's BES, have you
considered it might be a problem with that software?

I'm using BES. I'm leaning more towards a SQL RS problem, but I tought
I'd also give the Exchange group a shot. It's only attachments coming
from RS to BB users when Exchange is accessed through OWA. At this point
I'm ready to consider the phase of the moon as a possible trigger.

I'm not familiar with the ability of SQL Server to manage the format
of the mail it sends, but if it's possible, try altering the format
from, say, plain test to HTML, or from MIME encoding to using
UUENCODE.

I have the same problem. The reason is that SQL Mail sends its
attachments in Unicode, which for some reason BB can't handle as an
attachment. The only alternative I see is to direct the query output
to the message body. My reports aren't that large, but 100K seems like
a lot to spill.

Any other ideas?
