Hi,

In our organisation, we have many international nomade users connected to
the mail system with Analogic RTC modem 56k. They access the Exchange server
only to send/receive mail, and it works well (low size mail).

In the future, we want to offer them publics folder, shared calendars and
contacts. We will install a 2003 Exchange server. The nomade users will be
upgraded with Outlook 2003, with cache mode activated.

The question is:

What is the good choice for having the best response time from a standard
56k RTC access? RPC over Https or Standard client Exchange?

Many thanks.

James

RPC over HTTPs is the solution I would highly, highly recommend.

You would want to secure the transaction with SSL, which you can only do
with RPC over HTTPs, plus you may run into all sorts of issue with port
restrictions when trying to use RPC over TCP. TCP port 135 is blocked quite
frequently, and that will cause your client to NOT connect at all.

Here is some info on RPC over HTTPs, I can not stress enough how much I
would recommend this solution.
Here is a good starting point for all types of info
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/default.mspx
and here is a good link on RPC over HTTP
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2003/library/ex2k3rpc.mspx

Hope this helps.
