SMTP problem |
|
|
Hi All,
I am a little lost with the problem that i have, and need some advice.
Scenario.
I have 1 exchange site, 2 exchange servers ( 2nd exchange server is in a
child domain ) 1 Unix SMTP server.
I have the SMTP domain, abc.com which my MX records points to the Unix mail
server. The Unix box forwards the eamils to abc.local accounts. These local
accounts resides on the 2 exchane servers.
Here is my problem. Mail on exchange1 is not going to Exchange2 - i try to
force the connection, but i it doesnt work.
Clients that connect to either exchange servers have no problem sending
email, its recieivng emails in the same organization that i have a problem
with, only when the mail box resides on the 2nd email server.
All my accounts have abc.com and abc.local email addresses attached to their
account.
Any suggestions?
thanks

What about the RG topology? Same RG or two different RG's (one for root and
one for child?)
Is the mail flow from the *nix mailer to the root (exchange1) server which
then routes (or is supposed to) to the child exchange server?

Its the Same RG, and the mail flow is from Unix mailer to exchange1 and then

Each exchange server will send out to the world bythemselves

Then there's no way that *nix mail can be delivered along the path you
specified. In short, this is strictly an Exchange issue given the
information you present so far.
What have you done to troubleshoot the exchange communications so far?

The environment is all 2003.
Exchangeserver2 is on a different subnet, however i can ping, telnet, and
resolve the name of exchange2, and vice versa from exchange2 to exchange1.
I am now thinking it could be a problem, connecting to exchange2 virtual
smtp server? as thats what is listed as the queue that cant deliver the
emails ( exchange2 ).

Communication between servers in E2Kx is SMTP based. It's one of the
features of the product. You'll need to make that work in order for your
routing to function.
When you check via telnet, are you doing so from server to server via TCP
25? Are you issuing the commands and verifying that it works?

Hi Al
Its the Same RG, and the mail flow is from Unix mailer to
exchange1
and
then
to the child exchange server
Each exchange server will send out to the world bythemselves

What about the RG topology? Same RG or two different RG's (one
for
root
and
one for child?)
Is the mail flow from the *nix mailer to the root (exchange1)
server
which
then routes (or is supposed to) to the child exchange server?

Hi All,
I am a little lost with the problem that i have, and need some
advice.
Scenario.
I have 1 exchange site, 2 exchange servers ( 2nd exchange
server
is
in
a
child domain ) 1 Unix SMTP server.
I have the SMTP domain, abc.com which my MX records points to
the
Unix
mail
server. The Unix box forwards the eamils to abc.local
accounts.
These
local
accounts resides on the 2 exchane servers.
Here is my problem. Mail on exchange1 is not going to
Exchange2 -
i
try
to
force the connection, but i it doesnt work.
Clients that connect to either exchange servers have no
problem
sending
email, its recieivng emails in the same organization that i
have
a
problem
with, only when the mail box resides on the 2nd email server.
All my accounts have abc.com and abc.local email addresses
attached
to
their
account.
Any suggestions?
thanks
D
