Moving to New Server |
|
|
All - We have purchased new hardware for a new Exchange 2003 server. The
bosses would like to move Exchange to this new server and keep the existing
naming structure. We have another exchange server 2003 in the site hosting
other mailboxes in another state. I thought about just moving the mailboxes
to the other server but the connection speed between the sites is limited
and it will take a week (WAG) to move the boxes. The current E2003 is SP1
and not a domain controller. How can we move the exchange to the new server
keeping the same name?
I thought about:
1. Backup the stores
2. Bring the store down
3. Bring the server down
4. New server up with same names and patch levels
5. Run exchange setup with diasater switch
6. Copy all the files including the stores from the old server to the new
server
7. Start exchange
Will this work?!? What method is the best was to approach this?
Thanks,
Brian

OT, but why do you think you need to keep the same name? I have rarely seen
this necessary. If you move mailboxes, replicate PFs, etc., and keep the old
server up when your clients connect for the first time, they will
automatically find the new server.
