Same thing here. This just started happening this weekend out of the
blue. Exchange 5.5 has been running on this
server without issue for 2+ years. Just the Internet Mail Service is
failing.

Anyone resolve this issue?

I ended up call Microsoft Exchange support for 245 bucks. The call ened up
being free. But here is what we did: Installed these three patches. 837794,
213322 and Rollup Patch. We set the SuppressNDROptions to 100. I still get
the blank Originators in the IMS que but the IMS has stopped crashing.
Article 836500 explains Relaying and Unsolicited email. Microsoft ended up
suggesting a 3rd party spam filter.

One more thing Exchange 5.5 end of life is Dec 31, 2005.

I just installed the rollup yesterday but crashes still happen. I have
been running the NDR one since late november with a setting
of 1 and it was keeping all the blank originators clean and NO crashes.
Can you double check the 213322 patch? Can't find it on Microsoft's
site.
I will try and set SupressNDR to 100 and see if that stops the crashing
but it has been nice not having to cleaup the blank orig in the queues.
