Hi

I got a problem of this kind , after a node crash and a rejoin of this one
in a 2 node exchange cluster active/passive , I discover a problem with the
msdtc resources , in detail , everything is working correctly , except only
the manual move of the msdtc group from one node to the other no problem at
all with the quorum group and exchange group , in detail the node is trying
to receive the group fail on the moving of the distribution transaction
resources ( with an error in the event viewer on the log file) no problem
with the other resources in the group ( ip address , network name , disk
they go online straight) , the cluster service stop and after few minutes is
back online again , instead if I stop the cluster service on the node that
own the resources the second node have no problem everything it goes online
(including the msdtc) , I tried to delete the msdtc resources and in a
second time also the entire group and recreate it but I have the same
problem. I notice the same problem on both nodes.

I would like to know if someone knows how to proceed or what is possible try
, otherwise if it should be possible take the distribution coordinator
resource offline , or at worst delete it , or if it's strictly necessary
have it online in the cluster , I know msdtc should be used only during
installation and service pack application correct?

Correct MSDTC is only used for the install and service pack installation.
Delete the resource, clean up the directory, recreate it.

Rod

Windows Server 2003 has 6 COM+ rollups and SP1 that help DTC, have you
looked in these at all?

I have the exact same problem as Nick. I have tried all of the suggestions
in this thread (Msdtc Problem) and in Nick's other post (MSDTC Disk Problem)
and nothing seems to work. I applied the post SP1 COM+ rollup 5 hotfix
(KB896729) and that didn't make a difference.

I am trying to get MSDTC installed on my 2 node cluster before loading SQL
2005. I removed the DTC resource, deleted the DTC folder, applied the hotfix
and rebooted. I recreated the DTC resource and still have the problem that
DTC will not come online when the resource group moves to the second node.
DTC always comes online on 1 node but fails to go online on the second. If I
reboot both nodes I can get DTC to start on the second node but it fails to
come online on the 1st. All other resouces work just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris
