Deleted Item Retension |
|
|
Is there a way to remove a users ability to purge the items that are in the
deleted item retension dumpster?
We'd like to force all of our users to keep all items around for at least 30
days. We don't want the ability for a user to deleted an item, remove it from
their deleted items folder and purge it from the dumpster without having the
opportunity for us to back up that item at least once.
Thanks!

In the deletion settings area of the limits tab on a Mail Store properties
window there are settings to specify how long you keep deleted items and
mailboxes. There is also a check box that says "Do not permanently delete
mailboxes and items until the store has been backed up".
Checking that box should get you where you want to be. I surely wouldn't
advertise the fact that you can restore an item that has been deleted three
times though.....

Yeah, I thought of that too, but it doesn't behave like I would expect. If I
create a new item, delete it and empty it from the deleted items, I can purge
it immediately. Before backups happen.
If you've got any other ideas about how we might be able to work, I'd
appreciate it.
Thanks again.

iirc, it is not really completely deleted until a backup is taken, if you
have that check box selected...I remember doing some tests on this...
