I have just migrated to Exchange 2003 from 5.5. I had 4 Exchange 5.5 servers
in one site and migrated the first 5.5 server to this new Exchange 2003
server. I moved the mailboxes and didn’t have any problems. I followed the
steps in migrating System and Public folders and decommissioned the 5.5
Internet Mail service and setup the SMTP mail routing through the 2003
server. Over the last couple of days I’ve been having a lot of problems. Mail
stops flowing and my App log is filled with Events like this one:
Source: MSExchangeDSAccess Event ID: 2114 Category: Topology
Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=1752). Topology Discovery failed, error 0xffffffff.
And this one:
Source: MSADC Event ID: 8026 Category: LDAP
OperationsLDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory lewserver.rainbowfcu.Com
for distinguished name 'rainbow\administrator'. Directory returned
error:[0x51] Server Down. (Connection Agreement 'Config
CA_RAINBOWFCU_LEWSERVER' #3416)
And this one:
Source: MSExchnageDSAccess Catgory:Topology Event ID: 2102
Process MAD.EXE (PID=1516). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not
responding:
I reboot the server and the SRS Service does not start I have to go manually
start it and then everything is fine for 6 to 8 hours and then it starts all
over again.

It appears your Exchange server is having trouble communicating with domain
controllers and global catalog servers.

Ed,

My Exchange server is a GC server. That was the recommendation of MS
support. Any ideas of what might be causing this

It was an issue with DNS and the topology of my servers in AD

I am having the exact same issues with a new Exchange 2003 install. It's
like the Exchange server can communicate with the Domain Controller for a
long time and then there are issues like you had.

Did you fix the topology? How did you resolve this?
