Hi,

I'm new to developing in Exchange.
I wonder if Microsoft provides a (free) development-server with limited
capabilities (lets say max 2 mailboxes and limited mailbox-store quota ????)
I just want to setup a test-environment but not someting that stops running
after 60 days.

So you want a free unlimited use mail server but are willing to allow only 2
mailboxes with limited quotas? That would be perfect for home use wouldn't it. ;o)

Nope. You have a couple of options.

1. Buy an MSDN subscription that includes the OSes and server products so you
get Exchange.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/subscribers/

2. Buy Windows Server 2003 (or the MSDN sub above) and install SMTP/POP3 which
both comes with the OS.

3. Go out on the web and look for free Win32 SMTP and POP3 implementations and
install them on any old MS machines you have laying around already.

They have an annual subscription called "Action Pack" as part of the
Partner program. I signed up and for not much money (around $250) I got
Exchange, LCS, ISA, Win2003, a bunch of XP and Office licenses, etc.

This let me set up test servers at my office and have legal copies of
everything, not to mention upgrading every machine in the house to the
latest versions of all the important MS apps.
