Intermittent Lost of Exchange Server Services. Outlook disco |
|
|
Hope someone can shed some light, going crazy!!!
Environment
Windows 2003 Server AD deployment.
Over 20 Child domains.
Parent Domain deployed across 2 sites.
Each Parent domain site contains 1 backend exchange server.
Each identical to each other hardware wise.
Both run Windows 2003 Standard SP1 with Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise SP1.
Front end server running Exchange 2003 Standard
Exchange configured for OWA, OMA and RPC over HTTP
Problem.
Since upgrading from Exchange 2000 and splitting the exchange server over 2
sites we are experiencing the following problems.
Support calls received from users asking if email is down.
Upon opening ESM and trying to expand one of the Mail storage group the
following error is displayed.
C1041721
All Services running correctly.
OWA and OMA still function. As to date RPC over HTTP has not been confirmed.
To resolve the problem we either restart the server or for a quick fix will
end the store.exe process and restart the MS Information Store.
This happens at random occasion, we have recently gone through a period of 2
months without the problem occurring.
Microsoft has have been contacted and after a week of investigation their
recommendations was to upgrade the windows OS to Enterprise edition.
Each mail server has 2GB of RAM and all the switches are in place in the
boot.ini file.
A few months ago we had a number of problems with our remote sites child
domains replicating with AD and at the same time we had the exchange problems.
Upon trouble shooting a number of our ADSL lines had their MTU size reduced
to under 1500. A few articles mentioned mis match RPC messages could cause
disruption to Exchange Servers. Have not got the article number to hand.
Upon speaking to our ISP we had the MTU returned to normal and AD replicated
and our mail problems disappeared.
With the return of the problem the first thing we investigated was any
changes to MTU's and only 1 site had a problem. This was immediately shut
down, but we have still had problems with exchange refusing connections and
presenting the error message in ESM.
No ad problems exist and all other avenues have been looked into.
Anyone else had similar problems?? I have not found any articles or any
ones else who has experienced this problem.
Anyone out their got any answers, if so let me know and if the solution
works I will make sure you get all the credit.
Many thanks
Alan

Have looked at this before and implmented HF and so on. But still having
issues.
Today so far we have been stable, however one site running across a VPN are
not able to connect, but we do not see any MTU issues.
Thanks
