Migrate a exchange 5.5 standalone to Exchange 2003 Cluster |
|
|
Can you migrate a standalone Exchange 5.5 three server to a two node cluster.
They have a NT domain and have already stood up a AD.newdomain.com. Migrated
there clients and now want to do a intraorg coexistence. Is this a support
strategy?

You can, but the cluster can't be your first Exchange 2003 server in the
environment. Clusters can't do SRS, which you will need to migrate. Other
then that, it works great!

Look at http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/library. The Deployment guide has
some great information.

Just to add my $0.02, well $0.01 because I utilized this for a prior posting
in Exchange.Admin:
There are a few good articles and whitepapers out there. One is
strategically targeted at medium-sized businesses.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=38F816A4-FB6A-4CDB-991C-2D8FF73B5CE5&displaylang=en
This KB is designed for Exchange 2000, but the principles are still the
same.
How to migrate from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316886
This is a very helpful whitepaper, with step by step items.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/Ex2k3DepGuide/84fd1f06-cf90-43fe-b836-f21b2fa88d4d.mspx
A few good articles from MSExchange.org:
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange_2003_Upgrade_Checklist.html
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrating_Exchange_5_5_to_2003.html
XADM: Preparing a Mixed Mode Organization for Conversion to Native Mode
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272314
The Site Replication Service

It's good to know how the ADC and SRS function...even if you have one or two
servers.
