Email Problem |
|
|
Hi all
Exchange 2003
Here is my situation. The company I work for has just relaunched under
another name www.newdomain.no the old company domain is to held purely
for the email address continuity for old customers and will be for some
years.
I have installed Server 2003 and exchange 2003 and setup "newdomain.no"
All seems ok.
How do I recieve emails from the old domain "olddomain.no" on the same
exchange server that is hosting "newdomain.no". We do not want to
license another server to create the olddomain.no name. Both domains
are FQDN
Any suggestions welcomed. If this is not possible please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Dave,
Have a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;268838
Set the primary SMTP address for users as the new SMTP domain name.
You will also need to have the MX records for both domains pointing to the
server.

Thank Paul
That was just what I did not know how to do.
Another question if I may be so bold
I have two email addreses going to the same mail box "daveg" is there a
way that I can get exchange to tell me which address the mail came
from, both were set up as "smtp" when I created them. Before we went to
exchange I could see which pop account they came from.
Thanks again Paul

Dave,
Do you mean, you have two SMTP addresses for the daveg mailbox and when you
send a mail from daveg you want to know which SMTP address it comes from ?
If so, it will come from the users primary SMTP address.

Paul
Thanks for the reply, I have noticed that it all comes from the default
address.
I was thinking along the lines that, I now receive mail for 2
departments, Engineering and Development. When we had the pop3 system
the mails came in through different accounts and I knew which acount it
arrived at. Now it all becomes a mix in one inbox with no way of seeing
if it arrived to Engineering or development. Maybe I will need to take
one of the addresses back onto pop3 so I can filter it correctly.
If I were to create a redundant user say "Development" and transfer the
development address to that user, and grant myself rights to that users
mail box would it all still be a mix in my inbox or would I see the
mail came from user "Development". Also if I use OWA would I get to see
the "Development" users mail there.
I am being carefull here as I do not want to play around to much with
exchange and break it.
Thanks again

Re: Email Problem |

Dave,
So you have one mailbox that recieves emails for Engineering and also for
Development, so I presume that the mailbox has two SMTP addresses on it.
Two suggestions,
1. Not sure if this will work as I have not tried it and do not have a test
rig to try it. Create two folders under the mailbox one for engineering and
one for development and then have a run that will filter on the SMTP address
that the message was sent to. Like I said not sure if that will work.
2. Have two mailboxes one for engineering and one for development. If users
from development need to see the engineering mailbox (and vice versa) then
just grant them access to it.
Is there a particular business reason for having one mailbox for both these
departments ?

Hi Paul, Soory for the break had to travell
Yesy the business reason is that the Development manager left and I got
the shitty end of the stick untill they get a new guy, that was 8
months ago. I would like to keep it all seperate so when they do
finally get a new guy it will all be available for him.
