Unread messages displayed in OWA but not Outlook 2003 |

For a handful of users in my organization their client is not showing new
messages in the Inbox until after they click on Send/Recieve. We are running
Outlook 2003/Exchange 2003. All clients are set up in cached mode I have
checked all the problem Outlook clients and their status says "Connected" and
that "All folders are up to date" but if I access that same mailbox from the
user's machine via OWA it shows the unread messages.
I have checked all related registry entries in an attempt to find some
common defect, but all of the affected machines have the defaults.
Please help.

Are the users with the problem behind a firewall, or are you using NAT?
Are these users running XP SP2? If so check KB 839226. |

The users are behind a firewall, but so is the email server.

Our group policy settings turn the firewall off at login if it is on because
we have an enterprise firewall.
The problems only occur intermittently. Currently they are working fine. A
week from now they may not.

Watch out that your clients are not using Cached Exchange Mode, that
can lead to them not updating from the server. |
