Exchange ActiveSync & OMA |

I have Exchange 2003 Ent. with SP2. I was getting 1503 errors but after
doing the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379 now I dont get any.
My question is:
now that I've created a virtual dir following the mentioned article, do I
need to tell my users to use
-https://mail.mydomain.com/oma
-https://mail.mydomain.com/exchange-oma
-http://mail.mydomain.com/oma
-http://mail.mydomain.com/exchange-oma
or what?
I've used an outside connection to test this and this is what I get:
---please let me know If I am all good... all this tests were done from a PC
and not a mobile device
-After typing https://mail.mydomain.com/oma in IE, I got in and IE showed my
Inbox, Calendar, Tasks, etc in a white page, meaning with no icons at all. Is
this how is supposed to behave?
-After typing https://mail.mydomain.com/exchange-oma in IE, I didn't get in;
instead I got the message "You are not authorized to view this page" "HTTP
Error 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address " Why is this?
-After typing http://mail.mydomain.com/oma in IE, I didn't get in; instead
I got "The page must be viewed over a secure channel" "HTTP Error 403.4 -
Forbidden" again, is this normal behavior?
-lastly, after typing http://mail.mydomain.com/exchange-oma in IE, I got the
same thing as the last one (...page must be viewed over a secure channel...)
The article said that "After you follow these steps, both Outlook Mobile
Access and Exchange ActiveSync connections use the new virtual directory that
you create"
but again, I'd like to know which address I should now use.
please help....

enter "mail.domain.com" (no quotes) as 'server' in the activesync client
check "This server uses an SSL connection" if you have set it up for SSL
Make sure the "mail.domain.com" is the SSL certificate's name as well.
That will sort the addressing out

Sounds about right.
OMA is low bandwidth - no graphics

Because you setup the exchange-oma directory so that only the server has
permission to connect to it per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379
13. Under IP address and domain name restrictions, click Edit.
14. Click Denied access, click Add, click Single computer, type the IP
address of the server that you are configuring, and then click OK.

Yes, the 'EXCHANGE' virtual directory is usually set to to "Require secure
channel SSL"
Check that you have setup your new exchange-oma directory security
correctly;
15. Under Secure communications, click Edit. Make sure that Require
secure channel (SSL) is not enabled, and then click OK.
16. Click OK, and then close the IIS Manager.

Did you add the registry entry so that activesync knows what VD to use?
17. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
18. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MasSync\Parameters
19. Right-click Parameters, click to New, and then click String Value.
20. Type ExchangeVDir, and then press ENTER. Right-click ExchangeVDir,
and then click Modify.
NoteExchangeVDir is case-sensitive. If you do not type ExchangeVDir
exactly as it appears in this article, ActiveSync does not find the key when
it locates the exchange-oma folder.
21. In the Value data box, type the name of the new virtual directory
that you created in step 8 preceded by a forward slash (/). For example,
type /exchange-oma. Click OK. |
