Im preparing to perform an in place upgrade Exchange2000 to 2003 and was
wondering how long this typically takes? Is it less than an hour or half a
day? Not sure the size of the EDB files makes a difference or not. My
priv.edb file is around 30 gb. The server is a dual cpu server with 2GB ram
and raid1 (logs) and raid5(db) serving less than 100 mailboxes on a member
server Win2000. Its got plenty of horsepower. I hope that all that get
updated are program files, etc.

It should not take more than two hours if everything goes well. I would
make sure you have good backups and that you follow the Exchange Deployment
Tool. I have done a few in-place upgrades and you must make sure you remove
or uninstall the Instant Messenger Service in Exchange 2000 if you are using
it. Here is good Blog explaining the upgrade requirements,

http://hellomate.typepad.com/exchange/2003/07/upgrading_to_ex.html

and

NOTE: Make sure you also insure your Third Party Programs are supported on
Exchange 2003, specfically your AV Software for Exchange. Check the Vendors
website to insure its version will run under Exchange 2003.
