Hey everyone,

We are running a Win2k3 domain and Exchange 2003 using Outlook 2003. We
have a number of mailbox enabled accts. that I would like to hide from the
GAL. However, if I hide them people can't log onto any systems or OWA.

One example is: We have 20 accts. that we use in our training room. We
would like to hide them from the GAL, they don't need to be there. However,
when I hide them, people can't logon in the training room. Bummer dude!
Also, as part of the training I have them log into OWA which they can't if
the accts. are hidden.

Thanks for any ideas,

Clayton

See my blog for a potential workaround. It would be inconvenient at best,
but would allow you to keep the accounts hidden.

Otherwise, perhaps you can modify the accounts so that they appear at the
end of the GAL? Like placing a Z in front of the display name?
zTrainingAccount1, etc.

Thnaks Ben,

But that's not really what I am looking for. I don't want to add an
additional mailbox to Outlook, I want to be able to hide the mailbox and
still log into a copmuter on the network or OWA from off-site. I want the
acct. to be fully functional but hidden from the GAL.

Hiding an account from the GAL doesn't make it any less functional. Using
the legacyExchangeDN should allow you to do anything Exchange-related,
though I haven't tried it with OWA yet (I'll try it and post back later).
For Outlook, the procedure is the same for setting up a profile as it is for
adding a hidden mailbox as an additional mailbox. It's all about the
legacyExchangeDN.
