i hv NT4 and E55 environment and we merged with another company. I now
upgraded NT4 to become part of our parent company tree as child domain.

Now i am upgrading E55 through Migration wizard to make our Exchange also
part of same organization where our parent company server resides. It is
working fine for mailboxes but I am wondering how should I move distribution
lists from other E55 server to new E2k3 environment in separate
organization. should i use ADC to replicate DLs to AD. Currently I am not
using any ADC connector.

Thanks
Imulet

Hi Imulet,

Please consider the following:

1] Migration of DLs (Distribution Lists) between Exchange Orgs
-Because internal Email addresses within DLs use X400 addresses that are
internal
(unique) to the directory of the old Organization, these email addresses
will not
work within DLs imported into a new Organization without significant granular
modifications to them in a .CSV file prior to importing in the new Org.
-Typically the most efficient course of action is to manually recreate the
DLs
since all recipient mailboxes will have been created in the new Org and
Custom
Recipients migrated using ADC or .CSV files.
-There are some 3rd party tools that have this kind of capability. These
can be
expensive.

2] ExMerge VS Migration Wizard for migrating mailboxes with "Mailbox Rules"
also
known "Inbox Rules"

Because Mailbox Rules will sometimes use a folder "Friendly Name" to
identify the
folder a message is to be moved to, and they will sometimes use a FID (Folder
Identifier) some Mailbox Rules will work if migrated with ExMerge and some
may not.
This is because the FID is unique within the Exchange Organization and
would not
be recognized in a new Org. Migration Wizard does not even allow migration
of
"Mailbox Rules" due to the inconsistency of the results obtained.

Be sure to use the E2k3 SP1 version of ExMerge.
