"421 4.1.0 Dropping connection due to an error on this serve |
|
|
This is the message I get if I ...
1. Telnet to the local SMTP port on my Exchange Server 2003 (SP2):
2. Send "EHLO"
3. Send "MAIL FROM:<addr>"
4. Send "RCPT TO:<addr>"
The upshot is that 100% of the inbound email for our corporation (a
not-for-profit healthcare facility) is languishing on the SMTP forwarders in
our DMZ. The Exchange server is dropping the connection from the SMTP
forwarder before it gets to transfer MAIL.
I have no idea what exactly precipitated this issue (which is now ongoing
for about 2 days). Our servers are set to download hotfixes automatically so
that's the most likely trigger. The KB article referencing the "421 4.1.0"
error refers to a double-dot string in the IIS metabase file, but our
metabase file was clean.
If anybody can offer any insight, it would be most appreciated. Thanks.
