Mail Being Sent to Wrong Mailbox |
|
|
I have a small network running Small Business Server 2003 and use Exchange
Server with Outlook as a mail client. All mail is SMTP.
Recently, I've had a few problems with some emails sent externally being
bounced back and some routed to the wrong person. I ran the Server
Management - "Internet & Email" wizard and that seemed to put things right.
However, the problem of emails being sent to the wrong person has now
returned. I have checked that the person is not set to receive the emails
and that they are not included in any .bcc or .cc.
Some mail seems to get through ok and all mail sent out seems to go ok..
Here is a report from www.dslreport.com
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=dercoss-computing.co.uk
I can't see anything odd there, can you??
Where can I start looking for a solution to this problem??

Your DNS looks fine. You can't tell whether someone has been BCC'd, meaning
you can't see the BCC itself, but if someone is getting mail and their
address is not in the TO or CC fields (or, a group to which they belong is
not in the TO or CC fields) it seems likely they've been BCC'd... can you
provide more detail as to what exactly is happening? |

I tested things myself from an external pc and sometimes the email is routed
correctly, sometimes not.
Somebody has told me that there could have been too many email addresses for
my user account (about 15..). I have deleted the ones not being used and
unticked
"This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this
address".
in recipient policy. Since then the problem has not re-occurred..

That shouldn't be relevant - you can certainly have that many.

Are you sharing your Internet domain namespace with others who don't have
mailboxes on your server?

I think you'd know it if you were (meaning, there are users outside of your
office/server/network who use the same domain name for e-mail).

Everything seemed to run fine for a few days but the problem has returned
with some emails, seemingly at random, being delivered to the wrong
mailbox...
