WMI Access error |
|
|
I'm trying to run ExBPA from a workstation on the same network on my
Exchange server. When I run the tool with Admin privileges I get an error
saying that WMI could not be accessed. I'm sure it's not related to access
related because if I logged on to the Exchange server I can access the WMI
services without any problem. I believe it is firewall related since I'm
using ISA 2004 but don't know what to do to resolve the problem. Any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Did you already take a look at this ExBPA troubleshooting doc?

Hi Paul
I looked at the doc that you have referred to. I've made sure the server
permissions are set correctly for the user that I'm running the ExBPA under.
I can log on as an admin to the server and access security settings for
ROOT\CIMV2 but while at my workstation I am not able to do that. I also
attempted to run the WinMSD as a domain admin (the same as what I logged on
to the server with) and could not connect to the remote computer using that
tool. I finally installed the ExBPA on the server and ran the app from there
and it worked ok. I haven't attempted any more troubleshooting since then.
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks Jeff. WMI access relies on DCOM, which in turn uses RPC. Most
firewall configurations block RPC, so if you have a firewall in-between your
computers, then this is the likely cause of both WinMSD's and ExBPA's
connectivity problems.
