Setup Exchange 2003 on the new box (with a new name), move mailboxes,
replicate public folders, and follow
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822931 to remove old
server.

I have read many posts and articles on moving Exchange but I'm throughly
confused on my situation. I have done an inplace upgrade on the Old
server
that is still running Windows 2000 SP3 with Exchange 2003 SP1. I have the
new server that has Windows 2k3 and need to move the Exchange over to this
box and decomission the old box. I read the article "How to move Exchange
2003 to new hardware and keep the same name" but that states you have to
be
running the same OS to make it work. I don't care if I keep the same
name,
actually I would like to change it but ..... I'm looking for the most
logical
solution.
If I installed Exchange on the new box is there anything I need to know
about the moving of mailboxes and will I be able to take the old server
ofline. What do I need to look for? I'm also reading the article "
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrating-Exchange2000-Exchange-2003-Hardware.html
" and probably didn't need to do an inplace upgrade. However I don't see
any
articles looking to move the same Exchange with differnt OS's. Any help
is
much appreciated. Thanks.
