Recovering deleted mail boxes from tape backup |
|
|
we need to recover two mail boxes that were deleted from an online full
mailbox backup. The mail boxes used to reside on an Active-Active cluster
where each node had one storage group. The servers are called EVS1 and EVS2.
Is below procedure the correct action to recover, that is using a 1 node
cluster and naming the exchange virtual server as EVS2, or do I need to
install an active-active cluster to do this?
a) Install Windows 2003. (Give this machine the same computer name as the
orignal cluster)
b) Isolate this machine from the physical production network by giving it a
different IP / Subnet.
c) Run DCPROMO, ie. Make the machine a Domain Controller.
d) Install the Cluster service (ie. Make this machine a 1 node cluster)
e) Install the Cluster aware version of Exchange. Making sure to use the
same Organization & Administrative Group name as the Original cluster.
f) Install Service Pack 2 for Exchange. (ie, the Service pack must be same
as the original cluster)
g) Create a Storage group and Mailbox store with the same names as the
original cluster.
Dismount the Mailbox store.
Delete all the log and chk files.
In the Mailbox store properties --> Database tab, check the option "This
database can be overwritten by a restore"
h) Restore the backup.
Mount the Mailbox store.
i) Run Exmerge and export the required mailboxes into PST files.
j) Import the PST files into the respective mailboxes on the production
server.
