Hi,

In our Exchange 2000 we receive the following error after a Online
Backup (normal or differential):

Information Store (2368) An attempt to delete the file "C:\Program
Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00013CB.log" failed with the system error 5:
Access is denied.". The delete file operation will fail with error
-1032.

The file even can't be renamed or deleted in explorer.

Any idea how we can get rid of this file?

Regards,
Marc

Make sure that antivirus software has an exclusion for this folder!
If not, make the necesary changes!!!

Thanks for your answer.

I already stopped the exchange services. Unfortunately the file is
corrupt and it can't be deleted or renamed. Other Exxx.log can be
renamed without problems.

Marcel

You certainly could stop the exchange services and then delete it. Exchange
should be the only service accessing the file. Make sure though if you do
this that once exchange is running again that the log files are being
generated so if you have to restore the logs can be replayed.

You may want to if you can take the server down for a while do one of those
disk checks and see if possibly that will find some bad blocks or something
and either repair the file or write it to another segment where then you can
delete it. The thing I would be worried about is if it is corrupt and you
replay that file if a failure occurs what will it do to the information
store.? Might be worth trying but I know on big disks it can take some time.

Any flat-file av scanning going on here?

If not, you may have disk corruption. Check for any NTFS errors in the
system logs.

Run chkdsk in read-only mode on that drive to see if there are any
errors. *Before* doing any repairs, verify that the log file is safe
to delete.

Good point on this one Gustavo! Any virus scanning software that scans your
drives should be set to exclude the Exchsrvr directories or else it can
corrupt files.

The Online Backup runs fine. After a successful online backup the
E00xxxx.log files aren't needed anymore. So I think I never have to
replay this log. Normaly the Online Backup deletes this files
automatically, but in my case he can't.

Marc

(The AV already has the required exclusions set)

I just did a reboot and after that an online backup. Now the file is
gone.
