Determining Organization name from Exchange backup? |
|
|
Hi there,
We had a domain with a single 2003 Server running Exchange 2003 that had a
catastrophic failure recently(bad RAID controller completely corrupted all
the drives). For various reasons, the domain name has been changed and the
server is being rebult from sratch.
I have forgotten the Organization name, etc. and we only used Exchange for
calendar/contact sharing (so I can't open a sent e-mail in notepad to view
the info). I have an Exchange backup and a full computer backup from the
night before.
Is there any way to determine the previous Orgranization name, etc. from the
backup BEFORE I install Exchange with the wrong info? Otherwise, how hard is
it to change the Exchange Organization name after the fact so that I'm able
to restore the backup?
Thanks for your help!

Look for and restore/redirect the Exchange Setup Log (file on the root of the
C: drive called Exchange Server Setup Process log.txt) You should see the
name for the Organization there by doing a search and find for Organization.
Example would be;
:39:20] Checking to see if an Exchange org exists
[10:39:21] Found the organization "GOLDEN DATA CENTER"
I have had to do this in the past for emergency calls from customers.

Thanks! I'll try that out.
For anyone with the same issue, I found this article that shows you how to
determine the Site & Organization name if you have Exchange mail delivered to
psts: http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262430.htm
