I found on here something that looks like what is happing to me, but
lets see what we get out of this!

I am running an exchange server 2003 on a Server box but does not have
AD enabled (we just want it for exchange no AD and AD is not going to
happen so don't reply telling me thats how i fix it ^_^) I can creat
and email, and i can creat an mailbox for a user, but the global
catolog will not find the user. When i check the user in the ESM the
user can be found in the RECEPIENTS/all global address list. please i
will try to fill in the holes the more questions you ask. from what i
have seen in the other posts i will try to give free info.

ip of Server 10.65.0.23
ip of dns 10.65.0.9, 10.65.0.11
server is not running AD and will not!!!!
the servers can see each other ( the servers that have AD are 2000
servers this server is a 2003 server with 2003 exchange.)
the Admin pack 6.0 running on 2000 and 6.5 running on 2003.
i have tried deleting the all global address list and re-making it,
nothing good happened there.
i have deleted the user and tried recreating it and then adding a
mailbox/email to it. nadda.

i have done more things but please someone ask some question and help
me out!!

I am still wondering how you can install 2003 without AD?

Not running Exchange on a DC is a good thing, so I dont think anyone

is going to try to tell you need to.

What do mean the global catalog will not find the user?

Do you mean the Outlook clients cant see the users?
Are they in cache mode?

Try checking the Event Logs for any Failures with the GAL, you can force it
by rebuilding it and then check the event logs.

Also does the Exchange server have good connectivity to a global catalog
server(s)?

It is not best practice to have an Exchange server and a DC on the same box
anyway.

Also you may want to check your DC(s) for replication errors and DSACCESS
errors on the Exchange server.

Let me know if you see any interesting errors on either your DC(s) or the
Exchange server. Sounds AD related, but I need more specific details.

Look over your logs and get back to me, also you make want to check your
user accounts and ensure permission inheritance is checked on all your users,
sometimes the GAL will puke if it isn't set and Exchange doesn't have access
to stamp the account.

Also check for any issues with the RUS Recipient Update Service in the event
logs.

Have you checked how you have the GAL configured? Are you just using the
Default GAL or do you have more?

Do you have it

David,

since you have not replied to anyone, I wanted to ask you as well
what do you have on the event log??
Please post it,
also
The Recipient Update Service (RUS) is a very important component in your
Exchange installation, it is RUS that is responsible for updating address
lists and email addresses in your Active Directory
Check RUS, or run it manually,
you will have to make sure your exchange box can talk to your GC, and DNS
has been configured correcly
