Exchange Server

I've read several times that it is not a good practice to have Exchange run
on a domain controller. Can someone point me in the right direction as to
why this is not a good practice?

Here is a twist to the original question. Why do MS recommend that you do
not demote a DC if Exchange 2k3 is installed? Here is the KB article:

The only issue that I can think of is because Exchange uses the local DC
(and GC) (for DSAccess/DSProxy) it will not dynamically find another DC/GC
if dcpromo is used to demote the local DC. Can anyone confirm?

The article gives no specifics so your input is appreciated.

For larger environments its never/seldom done. You have no choice with Small
Business server so its not always possible.
