New Exchange 2003 installation |
|
|
hello,
I got two exchange 2003 ent. servers with SP1 running on windows 2003 ent
servers with SP1. However, I want to remove one of them and install new
exchange server 2003 on another server with different hardware. The server
which I am going to remove is master exchange server. After I install new
exchange server , is there a way to mount all database without moving
mailboxes to new exchange server?

I would do a mailbox move in this case. The problem is, AD will think its
still on the original server. You would have to disconnect the mailboxes
first and then reconnect them to the moved DB. Sounds like alot of work and
i don't many users who would enjoy being down that long.
Moving the mailboxes would make it a better end user experience and prevent
any long term issues. It is the most painless way to do it.
That being said it can be done, but I wouldn't suggest it unless there is a
specific reason for it (this doesn't sound like one of them)

An easy way to find all of the users on one server is to do an AD query for
mailstore and or mail server. You can then find all your mail enabled users
and schedule the moves.
Just keep an eye out on the Transaction Log Drive Space!!!
