Microsoft Small Business Server 2003
Exchange server 2003
Active Directory / one domain.
one server / 10 users

I have a user who works from his laptop. He explained that he "frequently"
finds that he is "offline" at surprising times.

I am having difficulty getting him to define "frequent" - my guess is 5 plus
times a week.

"surprising" because he well return to his laptop after working with some
phone call and find he needs to log in - once he is logged in, he will begin
working with his email and find this "offline" issue and then obviously need
to connect (login again).

Can someone provide me with some insight here. I don't know what would cause
his outlook to switch to offline indiscriminately and then I can't explain
why the connection to exchange server must me made separate (on top of) his
authentication with the network (this is one domain and one server).

Guesses, speculation, advice, all welcome!

check to see if his laptop goes into hibernation or standby I have seen
where they loose network connectivity in both of the above situations and
when they do outlook may go offline.

The laptop is in fact going into standby. Is it possible to configure outlook
so that it doesn't go "offline" when this happens.

The user is fairly simplistic and he doesn't seem to get that it is offline.
It's akin to "not working" for him.

I'm trying to reduce the fuss that the user faces. Even incremental
improvements/suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks
