I'm sure there is a write up on this somewhere but I can't find it. I'm teaching myself exchange 2003 on Win2k3 server. What I want to do is the following: I want to create an exchange server with some basic options and users with different permissions (done), I want to back exchange up (not done), and I want to restore exchange to a different server, as if the one that I originally had was destroyed or failed completely (not done). If anyone can point me in directions of the write ups for this, i'd appreciate it. I did find many ways for backing up, but i'm not sure they are right. I have NOT found any way that explained how to put it on a new server.

thanks in advance,

jeff

p.s. i am originally goin to be using NT back up but will be switching to comvault eventually, i just want to learn the basics first.

Check out Exmerge.exe. It's a free download that is available for Microsoft Exchange. Exmerge allows you to backup individual mailboxes to .pst files, and then you can restore those .pst files practically anywhere. It's very straight forward. No DB store, no Exchange backup agents to tackle.
