Can anyone suggest a solution to the latency problem that I am facing and could you explain how caching can contribute towards minimizing latency?

In a network, latency is an expression of how much time it takes for a packet of data to get from one designated point to another. In some usages, sending a packet that is returned to the sender and the round-trip time is considered the latency.

The latency assumption seems to be that the data should be transmitted instantly between one point and another; but this occurs rarely.

That I understand but how to minimize the latency during communication between the storage device and the system?

To minimize the latency between a server and a storage device, you need to make sure that there are no bottlenecks, congestion or other factors that add to latency and impact performance.

The latency increases with the more items mediating between an application on a server and the storage device. These items include software layers, network layers and the interfaces on the storage device. The fewer the layers the lesser will be the overheads and latency.
