Hi all guys,

I posted this question to another exchange newsgroup some time ago and
I was given a negative answer. I thought I would give it one more
chance in this group before surrending.

I have a special mailbox (bound to a fax device basically) which users
should send attachments to in order to be sent. The problem is, this
mailbox should only receive certain file extensions. Is there a way to
check the attachment type before mail is delivered to this mailbox ?
Can I do this only programmatically ?

Thank you so much for your time.

You should be able to do this programmatically using a Synchronous store
event sink attached to the inbox of the user you want to restrict and just
abort the delivery of anything with attachments you don't like. If all the
mail is coming in Externally you could also do it with a SMTP eventsink that
was bound to just fire on all emails sent to that address. The Exchange SDK
is the place to start for information on Event sinks.

The non programmatic options are going to involve some third party software
you could have a look on Slipstick www.slipstick.com to see if they have
anything listed that might be able to do it. I think some of the high end
content control software like Surfcontrol or MailMarshal allows you to have
group and user based policies that allow you to say this user or group can
only receive these type of attachments.

Cheers
Glen
