OST problem |

I created two profiles for my outlook2000. One is used when I am working in
the office. The other is used during my trip. For the first profile,
office profile, it contains one internet email account and one internal
exchange mail account ( not exposure to internet). All the messages are
delivered to OST file. For the second profiles, the trip profiles, it only
contains the internet mail account. My question is in the second profile, if
there is any way I can configure so that all the emails are delivered to OST
file ( Currently I created a seperate PST in this profile to contain all the
delivered messages due to the unaccessibility of exchange server. But this is
not good enough as other folders are not integrated together such as sent
items, contact ect.).

No, you can't set up your second profile to deliver mail to your profile
with the OST file in it.
Is there no way for you to connect remotely to the Exchange server (VPN)
from the Internet? Then you could just use one profile and be done with it.
If your Exchange server has means of using Internet access at all, why not?
Note also that MS doesn't support Internet Mail & Exchange in the same
profile in OL2000. Either get OL2002/3 or change your mail setup so that all
Internet mail is handled by your Exchange server. Methods for hosting your
domain's mail directly vary by version of Exchange, which you haven't
mentioned.... |

Many thanks for your reply. This exchange is for internal useage only which
means it is not exposed to Internet. VPN is a method but not ideal , because
the performance may be extremely slow considering the physically long
distance while travling.like between China and Canada.
The version of our exchange server is 2003. I may figure out one solution.
Upgrade outlook2000 to outlook2003, which allow me to use the cached exchange
mode. In that case, in my second profile, all the internet emails can be
delivered to
the OST file without exchange server.
But I need to test if it is workable or not.

Is that an absolute requirement? Having individual clients check POP
accounts is inefficient anyway....I don't recommend this configuration.

Yes, depending on connection speeds, performance can be slow, but I've got
many clients syncing to OST files over VPN even on dialup. If you connect &
sync often, it doesn't take that long....
Plus, since you have E2003, you might be able to look into RPC over HTTP(s)
providing your client OS is WinXP SP1 or SP2.

Yes, you could try it. You can then just use one profile, regardless.
