E-mails Not appearing |
|
|
Hi people
Hopefully someone can point out what the problem is. We have an Exchange
2000 setup on Windows 2000, and all clients connect to the exchange server
via outlook 2000. The only way the client can see if they have a new e-mail
is when they click on sent items, deleted items etc. Basically if they have
the inbox selected and someone sends them an e-mail it shows no new
e-mails,it's like the inbox is not refreshing!!
Can anybody help???
Cheers
Simon

The usual thing that causes this is something blocking UDP packets between
server and client, since Exchange uses UDP to push out new mail
notifications.

Hi Neil
Thankyou for your response. I'm a bit unsure as to where these settings
should be enabled. There is no firewall between client and exchange server,
so i'm guessing that somewhere on Exchange there is a filter setting, as all
clients by default allow all UDP ports??

If they are XP machines with SP2, the MS firewall could be blocking the ports.
It did for me until I added an exception for the Outlook program.
Or, if there is a NAT device between the clients and the exchange server, then
the exchange server will be trying to send the notification packets back to
using the original IP address of the client, instead of its NAT'd address,
which of course will then fail.
