Exchange 5.5 Disaster recovery |

I am looking to do a recovery of an exchange 5.5 server to a server in a
differnet domain. i only have offlien backups of the information store, does
anyone knwo if this is possible. I remember something about needing access to
the SAM on the original domain to recover the stores.

If you have all of the required information backed up, it's possible. Have
you read the *old* 5.5 disaster recovery whitepapers yet?

Yes, I read through that last night before I posted. I did not see anything
specific to restoring the db's to a different domain though. I do have both
an online and offleine backup.

You'll need a way to access the server when it's done being restored. That
access is in the form of permissions which is tied to the sid of your
service account. That sid is in the SAM of the domain it's currently in so
you'll need to restore that as well.
Easiest way I've seen is to use an isolated network and either put in a BDC
and then move it out to the new domain else use mirrored drives and just
move the mirrored drives over to identical hardware.
